Grandma's House

September 16, 2006

Today I opened the windows in the house, which I don’t do at all because I have such sever allergies.
Then the memories started flooding back, childhood memories of grandma rea’s house. When I was young during spring, summer, and fall she always had the windows open because she had no A/C. Almost always she had fans going in the windows too, which is a sound that almost always brings my thoughts back to home wherever I am.
Hearing the insects’ sounds, cool breeze gently blowing through the house. For a moment today I imagined myself back in grandma house as a child again. What a wonderful feeling to be a child again, no worries, no jobs, nothing but time to play and imagine. The gentle sounds of wind chimes, which my grandma collects. I can remember my favorite spot in her house, to lay under the big brown refrigerator. Even during the summer I would curl up in front of it and let the hot air warm me. Whenever we watched TV that was my spot. My cup was the little yellow Tupperware cup as a child. We often played with blocks, Lincoln logs, and playing cards. I remember playing Go Fish, then when we got older Rummy, and solitaire. Then in college we played peanuts. When I married Dan, he introduced Oh, Shit, which is what we play now.
I miss grandmas house.

Lily's Fall

After the post wide yard sale the girls took their money and bought scooters. They are required to wear their bike helmets on scooters too.
Ever since we got the scooters Lily never takes her helmet off. We can always tell who kid is outside playing (not on scooter) because she always has her helmet on. She has helmet hair every night. She never it takes it off because she only might be off her scooter for a bit.
Yesterday Dan’s best friend Dave was in, and we were laughing about lily’s helmet issue.Tonight, while at the campfire Shelby comes running out “Lily’s hurt in the house mom.” When I got to the house she had tried to jump the dog gate instead of go through it. I was in such a panic I took her helmet off and her shirt to check out damage to her side. I was asking does anything hurt? How is your head, did you hit your head? Dan says “Wendy, you just took her helmet off, her head is fine.” She was fine, other than her side is going to have one nasty bruise tomorrow. After we sent her to the couch to rest we were fixing the gate and laughing so hard because to be honest our child will never hurt her head because she never takes her helmet off!
